Make your Parade entry stand out!

Have fun – Work together – Learn new skills

Parade Workshops give your group an opportunity to show your culture to the thousands of people who line the streets on Australia Day. We give you the resources so you can develop the skills to make a float or object for the theme of your parade entry.

The Parade Workshops are jointly funded by Multicultural SA and the Australia Day Council of South Australia; no costs are involved for groups.

What are the workshops?

The Parade Workshops are an opportunity to create something that represents your community. In the Parade Workshops, members of your community will learn arts, skills and techniques from professional artists whilst having fun with your group.

What happens in the workshops?

We will look at the applications and arrange meetings with a select number of groups to work on their ideas. From there, we will arrange some times and dates to run the workshop for your group. You will learn techniques to build and decorate parade floats or traditional items over two days in January, which are facilitated by a local artist. You get to take home the piece/s of artwork you create to use in future Australia Day Parades or other community events.

When/Where are the Workshops Held?

Usually the program involves several sessions held during January in the Adelaide CBD. The times and dates for the workshops will be made to suit your preferences.

What can we make?

That’s absolutely up to you! Come up with an idea and we will see if we can make it happen! Think of a symbol of your community; eg kiwi birds for New Zealand, Ondel Ondel for Indonesia, Shivaji for India.
